the man

by dm gillis

today I am the man
by virtue of gender age skin colour and haircut
though frail and prone to surrender
I am a totem

for the debaucheries of conservatism
though I am an anarchist

for the sin of religious lies
though I know Christ is not Christian
nor Allah an Islamist

for environmental degradation
though I compost

for opposing feminism
though I listen and am accountable

for racism
though I hate stupidity

for the wickedness of intransigence
though I embrace chaos and, punctuate capriciously

today I am the man
and have arrived by puzzle of dust
